The 2017 official twinning visit took place from Thursday 27th April to Monday 1st May 2017. Here’s an outline of this year’s programme.
Thursday 27th April The official visit began when we greeted our visitors at Birmingham airport and braved the teatime traffic back to Droitwich. A short reception for members and guests with drinks and nibbles was held at the Cricket Pavilion, St Peter’s Church Lane. Guests then had dinner with their hosts.
Friday 28th April We enjoyed a full-day trip to the Black Country Living Museum. Quite a lot of visitors were introduced to the Singing Cavern, the mine experience and the traditional fish & chips!
Saturday 29th April A day free with visitors – a number of us enjoyed the first day of St Richard’s Canal Festival in Droitwich, some also joining in the well blessing ceremony. In the evening we had a tasty supper at Elmbridge Village Hall and introduced our French visitors to the esoteric delights of an English Beetle drive!
Sunday 30th April After a day with our guests at various venues scattered around the county and beyond, we came together for a farewell dinner at Holt Fleet. The evening was rounded off with music from our talented trio of Mike, Mike and Ian, and a good time was had by all.
Monday 1st May Most visitors returned to Voiron, end of the official twinning weekend, though a few have stayed on. We look forward to the return visit next year, and to greeting Voiron visitors on other occasions.
